General Medicine

The Department of Medicine, ACMS and BHDC has a dedicated faculty imparting state of the art patient care and excellent academics to its students. It is our mission and commitment to educate our students both, in the science and art of Medicine, while providing a comfortable, safe, yet disciplined environment.

The Department is located in the Third floor, Academic Block. The undergraduate students join the department in the third term, after passing their first professional exams. From here onwards their journey into clinical medicine starts, with the first week dedicated to “Introduction in clinical medicine”. Here, they are apprised of their roles as clinicians in the society, their responsibilities and attitude towards patients, colleagues and staff in the hospital.

It is also our constant endeavour to instil in the young minds the values of professional honesty, the need to critically analyse ethical issues and maintain high standards of professional conduct at all times.

Academics

The Department is actively contributing to research in the institute. The students are encouraged to take up various research projects and have bagged the ICMR STS Scholarships, presented papers and posters in national conferences under the guidance of faculty. The Department had organised a medical quiz competition for the students too. The faculty also does research on topics of their interest, and have been involved both in clinical research and research in the field of medical education in accordance with the Vision 2015 of MCI, in order to make continuous progress and improvements in the teaching and learning techniques and assessment of students.

Training

The MBBS students have regular theory lectures and clinical postings starting from third term to ninth term which take place over a three year period. We have a total of 280 lecture hours (which includes 20 hours of Chest and TB) and regular clinical bedside teachings, which continue for all batches round the year. Besides this, two term- end exams are held at the end of 6th and 8th terms, one prelim exam in 9th term and finally a fully-fledged university professional exam, the Third Professional MBBS Part-II Exam in the month of Nov- December every year.
