Microbiology is an essential part of Medical Sciences and aims to provide understanding of the natural history of infectious diseases in order to deal with the etiology, pathogenicity, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of these infectious diseases.
The Department of Microbiology in ACMS is situated on the 2nd floor of the Academic block. We have a state of the art museum and fully equipped Students Practical laboratory including a Trinocular microscope with CCTV and central gas supply.
Students study Microbiology in the II MBBS and spend a period of one and half year in the department, during which able faculty members ensure to impart not just knowledge to the students but also enhance certain skills to bring about an attitudinal change in the students to help them to become better clinicians.

Our aim of teaching Microbiology is that the student should not just do well in the examinations but also to give him a sound knowledge of the subject, so as to help him to excel in the clinical field. To achieve this end, we strive to make the lectures interactive, interesting and clinically oriented.
Students are also encouraged to regularly take part in Seminars and Quiz conducted by the department. Projects are allotted to the students for better understanding of the subject and to encourage productive interaction amongst them. Efforts are made by the department to undertake integrated teaching for vital topics to ensure that the student acquires a wholesome concept for the topic concerned.

The total duration of teaching Microbiology for II MBBS is 3 Semesters (3rd, 4th, 5th Term) with total hours of teaching being a minimum of 250 hours including lectures, tutorials, practicals, demonstrations, revision and also formative and summative assessments. . During this one and a half year, the students face a mid term and end term examination in every semester and are examined at the end of 3 terms in two theory papers of Microbiology and a practical examination conducted by the University. Lot of stress is given on the practical/ hands on training of the students. The pass percentage and the distinctions obtained by our students have made us proud.

Mr Sanjay after pursuing his MSc -Medical Microbiology from MGM Medical College, Mumbai has worked as a tutor and senior demonstrator in various Medical colleges. His keen interest in research has a positive impact on the students.

Professor

Dr (Col) Partha Roy, after completion of his MD Microbiology, has also obtained a Ph. D in life Sciences. He has a record of being an outstanding teacher being associated with various teaching institutions in Armed Forces, NICED and JNMC (Karnataka). Has received the Chief of Army Staff Commendation medal at AFMC in 2014. He takes keen interest in the dissemination of knowledge for the students and his area of interest includes Virology and Mycology. He is also the recipient of Silver medal for the best paper, IAPM, West Bengal Chapter in 2007.

DR ANURADHA MAKKAR,

Dr Anuradha has done post graduation from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical college (AFMC) Pune, and has an illustrious teaching career spanning 15 years in various renowned MCI recognized Medical Colleges. She is the officer–in–charge of the Examination Cell of ACMS and conducts the University exams held by GGSIPU for MBBS, MD/MS, MCh/DM & BDS courses. She is also the officer in charge of Women grievance cell of ACMS and is actively involved in imparting awareness for the same. She is an acknowledged external examiner for various courses including MBBS to number of Universities.

She has held various appointments during her career in Army and became an Associate professor in department of Microbiology ACMS, in 2014. She has been involved in various academic and clinical activities.

Dr Priyanka has done her DNB Microbiology from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital , New Delhi and has also gained experience in the areas of Laboratory Accreditation (NABL) and Clinical Research. Has experience of working as Consultant and Quality Manager (laboratories) in a Tertiary Care Hospital and has undertaken various research work.
