The subject of Anaesthesiology is taught in 7th and 8th Semester to undergraduate students and compulsory clinical postings in Operation Theatre and Intensive care Units are done in Internship. The department aims to train them thoroughly in perioperative medicine and pain management.

Brig (Dr) Rashmi Datta is a professor and senior consultant in Anaesthesiology and Critical Care , currently heading the department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt. She is a renowned post graduate teacher and DNB examiner with vast teaching experience at renowned institutes like Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and Army Hospital (Research and Referral), Delhi.

She did her MBBS from Himachal Pradesh University in 1983, following which she did successfully completed DNB in General Medicine and DNB in Aviation Medicine. Highly intrigued by the subject of perioperative medicine , she did her MD in Anaesthesiology and Critical Care from Delhi University in 1994.

Brig (Dr) Datta has authored several books and has various publications in international and national journals as lead author. Brig Datta is on the peer review board of British Journal of Anaesthesia. She was conferred the prestigious Fellowship of Indian College of Anaesthesiologists in 2015.

She is known for her dynamic personality, in depth knowledge of subject and passion for teaching. Her Under her headship, the department developed into an academically sound and clinically skilled department with utmost focus on patient care.
